Leakage detection at the joint asphaltic facing/cut-off wall - Midlands Dam, Mauritius
DISTRIBUTED FIBRE OPTIC TEMPERATURE SENSING
On principle there are two fibre optic leakage detection methods. If there is a sufficient difference between the temperature of the material surrounding the fibre optic cable and the temperature of the impounded water, the onset of a leak can be recognized by a significantly diminished temperature gradient in between the material and the water temperature with respect to the starting values, respectively the undisturbed values. This method is referred to as the gradient method. In the case of a not sufficient temperature difference the heat-pulse-method is coming into use.
